Powertoys 0.94 with settings and keyboard shortcut conflict detection

Version 0.94 of Powertoys includes features for searching for settings and keyboard shortcut conflicts.

Microsoft has unveiled version 0.94 of its Powertoys for Windows, introducing a suite of enhancements aimed at improving user experience. Among the standout features is a fuzzy search functionality that simplifies the process of locating settings, alongside a new tool for identifying overlapping keyboard shortcuts within the extensive array of available functions.

The developers shared the details of this release in a recent blog post, emphasizing that the updated version is designed to streamline navigation through the myriad of settings. The search feature has been strategically placed at the top center of the user interface, allowing users to engage with it effortlessly. The fuzzy matching capability means that users no longer need to remember the exact name of a setting, making it significantly easier to find what they need amidst the growing complexity of options. Users can initiate the search either by clicking in the search box or by using the familiar “Ctrl” and “F” shortcut, consistent with many applications.

Given the multitude of functions that Powertoys offers, it is no surprise that conflicts among keyboard shortcuts can arise. The latest version addresses this issue by introducing a feature that highlights these conflicts, enabling users to modify their key combinations and access the desired functionalities without hassle.

Moving cursor

Within the “Input/Output” section, under “Mouse utilities,” users will find the newly added “Floating cursor” option in the “Mouse pointer ‘crosshairs'” feature. By default, this function can be activated using the combination of the Windows and Alt keys along with the period key (“.”). This innovative feature allows users to navigate the crosshairs through a series of steps: first, a rapid horizontal movement; second, a slower horizontal glide; third, a quick vertical descent; and finally, a slow vertical movement. This functionality is particularly beneficial for those who may struggle with precise mouse control, offering a seamless, bar-free experience.

The release notes for Powertoys version 0.94 detail additional changes and improvements. Users can initiate the update via the integrated update search, or they can download the installation packages directly:
