‘We Apologize’—Microsoft Confirms Windows Update Mistake

Microsoft has recently issued an apology for the confusion surrounding a Windows update, which it initially claimed had resolved a critical issue. However, reports indicate that the problem not only persists but has escalated.

Understanding the Firewall Error

According to Windows Latest, this situation stems from a bug in the Windows 11 24H2 update that triggered a significant Firewall error. Dubbed a “false, harmless error,” this glitch has understandably alarmed users. Microsoft’s assertion that the error was addressed in the Windows 11 KB5062553 update has proven to be inaccurate, as the update appears to have exacerbated the issue rather than resolved it.

Tracking the error from its inception, Windows Latest reports that many users continue to experience the Firewall issue, with the error message still appearing on their devices. “It kept showing up on my devices, and dozens of users told me they’re still running into the same,” the publication noted.

Fortunately, users can breathe a sigh of relief, as these firewall warnings can be safely disregarded. The error, identified as “Windows Firewall With Advanced Security 2042 None,” is merely a reporting bug and does not pose any actual threat to users’ PCs.

As highlighted by Windows Latest, Microsoft has acknowledged that this warning stems from a coding error introduced with the recent updates for Windows 11 24H2. Importantly, this glitch affects only the event log entry and not the firewall’s functionality itself.

This series of update-related challenges comes at a particularly sensitive time for Microsoft, as the company, along with its OEM partners and government security agencies, is actively encouraging Windows 10 users to transition to the newer operating system. This push for upgrades occurs despite a recent reversal that effectively extends Windows 10’s support lifespan for many users until October 2026.
