As Windows 11 approaches its fourth anniversary later this year, the operating system continues to evolve, albeit with some features still absent since its initial release. Microsoft has been gradually reintroducing some of the most sought-after functionalities, much to the delight of its user base. One such feature making a comeback is the clock in the calendar flyout, a detail that many have missed.
Restoration of the Calendar Clock
Windows enthusiasts first caught wind of the calendar clock’s return back in April, and with the latest builds rolled out in the Dev and Beta channels, Microsoft has officially reinstated this feature. Users can now enjoy a larger clock display, complete with seconds, reminiscent of the functionality found in Windows 10. This feature can be viewed whether the calendar is collapsed or expanded, providing a seamless experience.
Beyond merely restoring the clock, Microsoft is also enhancing its usability. For those who prefer a more streamlined appearance, the clock can be easily toggled off in the Settings > Time & Language > Date & Time menu. However, it’s important to note that this feature is being released gradually, meaning not all insiders will have immediate access. For those eager to enable it sooner, the ViVeTool app offers a workaround:
- Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files into a convenient folder.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files using the CD command. For instance, if ViveTool is located in C:Vive, type CD C:Vive.
- Input vivetool /enable /id:42651849,48433719 and hit Enter.
- Restart your computer to apply the changes.
Despite these enhancements, the taskbar calendar remains somewhat rudimentary. Currently, it lacks the ability to display user agendas or create new events, leaving users with a basic calendar interface and limited functionality, primarily focused on the Focus Assist feature. For those seeking a more robust calendar experience, exploring third-party applications may be the best route.
