Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel are now able to explore the latest enhancements with the release of Windows 11 Build 27749. This update, aimed at improving accessibility, introduces a couple of noteworthy features for the Narrator tool, which is designed to assist users with visual impairments.
What you need to know
- Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Build 27749 to Insiders in the Canary Channel.
- A new shortcut has been added, allowing users to copy the most recent statement made by Narrator.
- Narrator can now automatically read contents within the new Outlook app, mirroring functionality previously available in the classic version.
The latest build can be easily installed through the Windows 11 Settings app for those already part of the Insider program. Notably, Microsoft has opted not to provide a Software Development Kit (SDK) for this build or any in the 27xxx series at this time.

Narrator
- A new shortcut, “Narrator key + Control + X,” has been introduced to facilitate copying the last spoken text by Narrator. This aligns with the existing shortcut for repeating the last phrase, making it intuitive for users to memorize.
- Narrator now features auto-reading capabilities for emails in the new Outlook app, a function that was previously available in the classic version.

File Explorer
- An issue causing excessive spacing in the navigation pane has been resolved.
- RAW images taken in portrait mode will now correctly display in portrait thumbnails, addressing a previous inconsistency.
Taskbar & System Tray
- Users will now see a search box when the taskbar is set to auto-hide and the search option is configured to display a search box instead of an icon.
Input
- The mouse option “Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key” has been updated to ensure the circles displayed are DPI-aware, enhancing visibility on high DPI monitors.
Narrator
- A performance issue that caused Narrator to slow down after prolonged use has been addressed. Users experiencing ongoing delays are encouraged to report them via the Feedback Hub.
- Fixed an issue where Narrator would announce “contains style” unnecessarily when focused on styled text across various applications.
- Some dialogs in Narrator have been corrected to adopt the 200% text scaling setting in Windows.
Task Manager
- An issue resulting in Task Manager displaying a zero count for apps and processes has been resolved.
Audio
- A problem that caused audio on certain devices to unexpectedly ramp up to 100% upon boot or after sleep has been fixed.
- A blank entry in Settings > Privacy that previously caused crashes has been addressed.
Other
- Issues affecting Git functionality for Insiders using Arm PCs have been mitigated.
- Resolved a bugcheck issue related to KERNELMODEHEAP_CORRUPTION from the previous flight.
- Fixed an underlying issue that could prevent users from joining a domain.
- Addressed a problem where DirectAccess would remain stuck in a connecting state.
