Since the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft has provided users with a method to insert emojis, albeit through a somewhat obscure route. The emoji panel can be summoned using the keyboard shortcuts Win+. (period) or Win+; (semicolon), a combination that remains largely unknown to the average user.
Windows 11 takes a step forward by incorporating the emoji panel, along with GIF search capabilities, directly into the clipboard feature accessed via Win+V. However, Microsoft is currently experimenting with an even more user-friendly approach: a dedicated button on the Taskbar for instant access to the emoji panel.
Windows 11 Gets An Emoji Button
According to reports from Windows Latest, the preview build 22635.4580 of Windows 11 has introduced a button positioned near the System Tray in the lower-right corner of the screen. This button allows users to easily call up the emoji panel with a simple click, eliminating the need to memorize shortcut keys. This enhancement aims to provide a more intuitive experience for those who may not be as familiar with keyboard shortcuts.
Similar to other features on the Taskbar, the emoji button is entirely optional. Users who prefer a minimalist Taskbar can hide it through the Settings menu, specifically under ‘Emoji and more’ found in Personalization > Taskbar > System Tray Icons. For those who still wish to keep the button visible but unobtrusive, there is an option to display it only while typing.
Currently, the button appears to be non-functional, but mockups have been created to illustrate its intended design and functionality. While the timeline for this feature’s rollout to all Windows 11 users remains uncertain, it is anticipated that it could be included in a forthcoming Windows Update, potentially during the next major update cycle.
Pokdepinion: This addition is a welcome change; it raises the question of why Windows has not made such a feature more accessible, especially given the ubiquity of emojis in today’s digital communication, particularly on smartphone keyboards.
