Windows 11 update lets users submit real-time logs for sluggish performance: Report

Microsoft Enhances Windows 11 Performance Monitoring

Microsoft is intensifying its commitment to resolving persistent performance issues in Windows 11 by unveiling a new diagnostic data collection system aimed at users facing sluggish or unresponsive behavior. According to a report by The Verge, the tech giant has rolled out a new Insider test build that incorporates an automatic logging mechanism, designed to streamline the feedback process for users.

This recent update empowers Windows Insiders to submit real-time performance logs directly through the Feedback Hub whenever they experience lag or other performance-related challenges on their devices. In a statement, Microsoft emphasized the importance of user feedback, stating, “Windows Insiders are encouraged to provide feedback when experiencing PC issues related to slow or sluggish performance, allowing Feedback Hub to automatically collect these logs, which will help us root cause issues faster.”

This initiative aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy to enhance the responsiveness and reliability of its operating system. Since the launch of Windows 11 in October 2021, users have reported varying performance levels across different hardware configurations. Complaints have ranged from disappointing gaming experiences on modern CPUs to a general sentiment that Windows 11 operates slower than its predecessor, Windows 10.

While Microsoft has already implemented several behind-the-scenes enhancements, including optimizations to the Taskbar, notification area, and quick settings throughout 2023, this latest development reflects a more proactive stance. The updates in the upcoming 24H2 release have been credited with improving performance on older devices, and the anticipated 25H2 update is expected to further this positive trend.

In addition to improvements on the user side, Microsoft is also raising its standards for driver development. As part of the 25H2 update, developers will now be required to conduct static analysis on drivers prior to certification. This measure is designed to identify potential flaws in driver code early in the deployment process, thereby enhancing overall system stability.

By making performance monitoring more intuitive and addressing fundamental system interactions, Microsoft aims to mitigate criticism and ensure that Windows 11 provides a more seamless user experience across a diverse range of devices.
