Windows 11’s Recall AI is now rolling out on Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has officially announced the rollout of Windows Recall, a feature designed to enhance user experience on Windows 11 systems equipped with KB5055627 on Copilot+ PCs. This innovative tool harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to capture and store visual information from your screen, allowing users to effortlessly revisit previously viewed content.

As described by Microsoft, Recall enables users to “recall” moments from their digital interactions. For instance, if you find yourself working on a PowerPoint presentation related to financial operations but can’t quite remember the file name, you can simply describe the document in everyday language. Recall will then assist in locating it swiftly, demonstrating its capability to search for photos, links, or messages based on what is visible on your screen.

Recall is shipping after nearly a year of announcement

Initially unveiled in May 2024, Recall was positioned as a flagship feature of Windows 11 and the Snapdragon-powered “AI” PCs. At that time, Microsoft celebrated Recall as a prime example of AI integration within the Windows ecosystem. However, the feature faced scrutiny from security researchers, who raised alarms about potential privacy issues, particularly regarding the capture of passwords and their storage in plain text.

In response to these concerns, Microsoft took a step back, pausing the rollout of Recall to address privacy and security implications. The company engaged in extensive testing with Windows Insiders, ensuring that the feature would be both effective and secure. As a result, Recall has been made entirely optional, with enhancements implemented to filter out sensitive information such as passwords.

After nearly a year of development and refinement, Recall is now part of Windows 11 Build 26100 for users with Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs. The feature is set to be widely available with the upcoming May 2025 Patch Tuesday Update, marking a significant milestone in Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to integrating AI responsibly into its operating systems.
