Windows 11’s Start menu redesign is getting a redesign

Microsoft is set to embark on yet another transformation of the Windows 11 Start menu, responding to user feedback regarding its current iteration. As reported by PCWorld, the tech giant is addressing concerns that the existing menu is overly expansive and occupies excessive screen real estate.

Upcoming Redesign Features

The forthcoming redesign promises to enhance both performance and user experience. By leveraging native WinUI technology, Microsoft aims to deliver a more responsive interface, complemented by a new Low Latency Profile feature designed to optimize CPU performance during routine tasks, such as accessing the Start menu.

Among the most anticipated changes are new customization options that allow users to tailor their Start menu experience. The menu will feature resizing toggles, enabling users to switch between a Large mode, which displays more pinned applications and larger category sections, and a Small mode, ideal for those with smaller screens seeking a more compact layout.

In addition to resizing, users will gain the ability to hide specific sections of the Start menu. This includes options to conceal the pinned section, the apps list, and the recommended section, as well as the ability to remove their account name and profile image from view. These enhancements are designed to create a more personalized and streamlined interface for users.

As these changes are currently being tested in an Insider build of Windows 11, they are expected to be rolled out with the release of Windows 11 26H2 in October of this year. This latest iteration aims to align more closely with Microsoft’s vision for a user-friendly and efficient operating system, taking into account the valuable feedback from its user community.
