Initially announced in March 2021, Windows Server 2022 became generally available in September of the same year as part of the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) offering, which guarantees a decade of support. Post-October 2026, Windows Server 2022 will enter its extended support phase, which will provide security updates at no additional cost. This phase is scheduled to continue until October 14, 2031, ensuring that users remain protected during this transition period.

In light of these changes, Microsoft has strongly advised administrators to consider upgrading their systems to Windows Server 2025. This version became generally available in November 2024, following its initial rollout to Windows Insiders in January 2024.
