Microsoft is broadening the scope of its Recall AI feature, now extending testing to Copilot Plus PCs powered by Intel and AMD. This follows the initial rollout on Qualcomm-powered laptops last month, where Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel had the opportunity to explore this innovative AI tool.

Enhancing User Experience with Recall

Recall functions by capturing screenshots of nearly all activities on a Copilot Plus PC, transforming them into searchable memories that users can easily revisit. This feature is entirely optional, allowing users to enable snapshots that facilitate the retrieval of past work through natural language searches or a visually intuitive timeline.

Similar to the experience on Qualcomm devices, Windows 11 will automatically download the necessary models for Recall and the Click to Do feature in the background upon installation of the latest Dev Channel build. Users will need to manually enable snapshots, with options to manage which snapshots are saved or deleted, akin to clearing browsing history by date. Moreover, Microsoft offers the ability to exclude specific apps and websites from Recall, while also ensuring that sensitive information such as credit card details, passwords, and personal identification numbers are not captured in snapshots.

In response to concerns raised by researchers regarding the security of Recall, Microsoft has implemented several enhancements. Users are now required to utilize Windows Hello for identity verification before accessing snapshots. Additionally, the feature mandates that BitLocker and Secure Boot be enabled, which is standard on Copilot Plus PCs.

Introducing Click to Do

Alongside Recall, Microsoft is also testing the Click to Do feature. This tool can recognize text and images within Recall snapshots, enabling AI-driven actions such as copying text or saving images from previous snapshots. Furthermore, Click to Do is being expanded beyond Recall, allowing users to invoke it through a simple Windows key + mouse click for actions on images and text.

In a further enhancement to the user experience, Microsoft is rolling out its Image Creator and Restyle Image features within the Photos app for Intel- and AMD-powered Copilot Plus PCs. These devices will also gain access to Cocreator in Paint, empowering users to generate AI-assisted images directly within the application.
