Enhancements to the Prism Emulator
Microsoft has recently rolled out an update to its Prism emulator, a significant advancement that enables x86 applications to operate seamlessly on Windows 11 devices equipped with Arm chips. This update not only expands the range of compatible applications but also enhances performance, particularly for those utilizing AVX or AVX2 extensions.
“Windows on Arm devices, such as those powered by the Snapdragon X series processors, are getting a boost thanks to an update to Prism that increases performance and enables running more apps and games under emulation,” Microsoft stated, highlighting the strides made in natively supporting the platform.
The Prism emulator represents a marked improvement over the previous x86 app emulation layer introduced with Windows 10. Today, most x86 applications run smoothly, often indistinguishable from their native counterparts. Users can now enjoy a computing experience on Snapdragon devices that rivals that of traditional Intel PCs—a remarkable evolution considering the challenges faced just a few years ago.
