Google Play Introduces Government App Badges

The badge, which is designed as an icon of a building with the label “Government” beneath it, aims to provide immediate recognition of an app’s official status. When users browse these apps, they will find the badge positioned to the right of the app’s rating. A simple tap on the badge will reveal a verification message confirming the app’s affiliation with a government entity.
As of today, this new feature is being applied to more than 3,000 government apps across 12 countries, including:

- South Korea

- Brazil
- Indonesia
- India
- Mexico
Among the apps receiving this badge are those from NASA, FEMA, and IRS2Go, providing users with an added layer of assurance when downloading government-related services.
This initiative was first announced in November 2023 as part of Google’s commitment to promoting high-quality applications on its platform. Following a period of testing with a select group of users, the feature is now widely available.
