Windows 10 KB5048652 update fixes new motherboard activation bug

Microsoft has rolled out the KB5048652 cumulative update for Windows 10 22H2, introducing a suite of six fixes aimed at enhancing system performance and user experience. Among these improvements is a critical resolution for an activation issue that arose when users replaced their device’s motherboard.

This update is not merely optional; it is mandatory, as it encompasses the essential security updates for December 2024, coinciding with Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday schedule. Users can initiate the installation process by navigating to Settings, selecting Windows Update, and performing a manual ‘Check for Updates’.

Given the mandatory nature of this update, it will automatically commence installation once the update check is executed. To facilitate a smoother transition, users have the option to schedule a restart at a convenient time to complete the installation process.

In light of the holiday season, Microsoft has announced that there will be no preview updates for Windows 10 in December, with the next round of updates set to resume in January 2025.
