Epic Games Partners with Telefónica for Android Devices

Epic Games has announced a new partnership with telecoms company Telefónica that will see Fortnite and the Epic Games Store pre-installed on Android devices. The deal, set to run until 2025, covers compatible Android devices on Telefónica’s network in Spain, the UK, Germany, and Spanish-speaking Latin America.

Players will soon have the ability to download third-party games alongside Epic’s own apps, such as Fortnite and Rocket League Sideswipe. This move aims to simplify access to a wide range of gaming options for users.

Telefónica, a major global telecommunications provider with over 390 million customers in Europe and Latin America, expressed excitement about the collaboration. Telefónica’s director of partnerships and devices, Lorena Itziar Senador-Gómez Lázaro, highlighted the partnership as a way to deliver high-quality digital experiences to customers.

Michael Modon, Epic Games’ director of growth partnerships, also shared enthusiasm for the partnership. He mentioned that players will now have direct access to the Epic Games Store, Fortnite, and upcoming third-party games on their Android devices. Both companies are looking forward to expanding their collaboration to offer more benefits to players.

Notably, Telefónica is the first mobile carrier to introduce Direct Carrier Billing in the Epic Games Store. Additionally, the companies previously worked together on an interactive music experience in Fortnite at the O2 Arena during the pandemic, attracting a massive audience of over 10.8 million players.
