Epic gave away nearly 600 million games in 2024, and it’s ‘not slowing down’ for 2025

As 2024 unfolds, the Epic Games Store has provided an insightful retrospective on its performance over the past year. The store has experienced significant growth, both in terms of user engagement and the breadth of its game offerings. The total user base reached an impressive 295 million, marking a notable increase of 25 million from the previous year. Additionally, the Epic ecosystem expanded to encompass 898 million cross-platform accounts, a rise of 94 million from 2023.

Perhaps the most striking statistic is the release of 1,100 new games throughout 2024, bringing the total number of titles available on the Epic Games Store to over 4,000. This surge in content may come as a surprise to many, highlighting the platform’s commitment to diversifying its game library.

Despite some challenges, including a workforce reduction of 800 employees, Epic maintained its popular game giveaway initiative. In 2024, users claimed more than 595 million free games, a slight increase from just under 586 million in 2023. This generosity averaged out to a remarkable ,229 in total value per player. Epic has assured users that this program will continue into 2025, extending across both PC and mobile platforms.

The Epic Games Store launcher has seen performance enhancements, with loading times reduced to a third of what they were in early 2023 for 95% of users. While improvements are evident, the launcher still exhibits some sluggishness, particularly for those managing extensive libraries. Looking ahead, a much-anticipated download manager is set to debut in the first quarter of 2025, promising features such as scheduled downloads and queue management to enhance user experience.

Upcoming features also include gifting options, preloading capabilities, and a comprehensive overhaul of search and browsing functionalities. Social features are on the horizon as well, with new voice and text chat options, game-independent parties, and tools for finding groups across all supported platforms.
