Minecraft mobile revenue surges 44% following movie release

In a noteworthy development for the gaming industry, mobile in-app purchases for Minecraft experienced a remarkable 44% increase following the release of A Minecraft Movie. This surge is highlighted in a recent transmedia report from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, which also noted a 9% rise in active users on mobile platforms and a substantial 41% increase on consoles.

Engagement Trends

From January to mid-May 2025, daily active users (DAUs) for Minecraft on both mobile and console platforms exhibited consistent weekly patterns. Mobile DAUs fluctuated between 8.5 million and 10.5 million, with a significant spike occurring in early April, coinciding with the movie’s premiere. During this peak period, mobile DAUs surpassed the 10.5 million mark.

April also marked a milestone for Minecraft’s mobile revenue, which reached a three-year high of 9,000 in gross player spending. This figure represented the game’s best single-day performance since December 25, 2021, as per estimates from AppMagic.

Fallout’s Resurgence

In a parallel trend, the release of the Fallout TV show catalyzed a notable increase in engagement across its associated game titles. Sensor Tower’s findings revealed that Fallout Shelter experienced a staggering 77% rise in daily active users on mobile, while in-app purchase revenue soared by 150%. This surge translated to nearly 0,000 in daily mobile IAP revenue, with Fallout 4 on PC witnessing daily unit sales peak at over 25,000 units.

This peak in engagement for Fallout titles occurred around mid-April and gradually tapered off in the months that followed, returning to baseline levels by July 2024. For those interested in a deeper dive into these trends, the full report is available for access.
