Xbox Officially Adds Steam Integration Via New PC App Feature

In a significant development for gamers, Xbox has initiated the rollout of Steam integration within the Xbox PC app, marking a new chapter in the accessibility of gaming libraries. This feature is part of the innovative Aggregated Gaming Library, which aims to streamline the gaming experience by allowing players to access a multitude of titles from various platforms all in one place.

Aggregated Gaming Library: A Unified Experience

The Aggregated Gaming Library is designed to provide a seamless interface where players can launch games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net, and other prominent PC storefronts directly from the Xbox PC app. While users will still need to have the respective launchers installed on their PCs, any games from these platforms will automatically populate in the Xbox app, simplifying the process of managing and accessing games.

As Xbox describes it:

“With the aggregated gaming library, players can conveniently launch games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net and other leading PC storefronts from a single library within the Xbox PC app. Whether you’re on a Windows PC or a handheld device, your Xbox library, hundreds of Game Pass titles, and all your installed games from leading PC storefronts will now be at your fingertips.”

This feature arrives at a fortuitous moment, coinciding with the anticipated release of the ROG Xbox Ally handheld later this year. Xbox has been diligently working to enhance the user experience on handheld devices, and the Aggregated Gaming Library promises to facilitate easy access to a wide array of titles once they are installed on the ROG Xbox Ally.

For those who may prefer a more tailored experience, Xbox has included an option to disable certain storefronts through the settings menu of the Xbox PC app. Additionally, plans are in place to expand support to more storefronts in the future, ensuring that users can look forward to a continually evolving gaming ecosystem.

Currently, this feature is exclusive to Xbox Insiders participating in the PC Gaming Preview, with the rollout commencing this week. As Xbox notes:

“Starting this week users enrolled in the PC Gaming Preview can get a first look at the new aggregated gaming library in the Xbox PC app for Windows 11 PCs and handheld devices. The feature will be available this holiday on the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, where players will see their aggregated gaming library within the new Xbox full screen experience.”

This integration represents a promising step toward a more interconnected gaming landscape, providing users with the convenience of a unified library at their fingertips.
