Developer Arkanya Games has officially announced that The Girl from Arkanya will make its debut on PC via Steam on August 21, 2025. This announcement follows a recent shift in the studio’s publishing strategy, as they have chosen to self-publish after parting ways with their former partner, Top Hat Studios, earlier this month.
A new trailer has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the pixel art adventure that combines puzzle-solving, dungeon crawling, and light combat. The footage highlights the game’s vibrant environments and teases the intriguing dynamic between the protagonist, Marisa, and her animal companion, which is set to play a pivotal role in exploration and progression.
The game is a top-down action-adventure inspired by the beloved The Legend of Zelda series, following treasure hunter Marisa and her capybara sidekick as they traverse lush jungles and perilous ruins. This Kickstarter-funded project has experienced a lengthy development journey, facing several delays since its initial announcement in 2020.
Publisher Change Speeds Up Steam Launch
Regarding the recent publisher change, Arkanya Games has confirmed the decision to terminate its publishing agreement, citing disagreements over the project’s future direction. This transition to self-publishing has empowered the team to establish their own release timeline. Initially, the Steam version was slated to launch alongside console ports; however, prior constraints had left PC players awaiting their turn behind slower porting processes.
According to the developer, “very little progress” had been made on console versions under the previous arrangement. Now liberated from those delays, Arkanya Games can independently release the PC version while actively pursuing new deals for console adaptations. Discussions for potential console releases are reportedly ongoing.
While The Girl from Arkanya is currently confirmed only for PC, the team remains hopeful about expanding to additional platforms in the future.
