Hello Windows Insiders,
Enhancements to Microsoft Copilot App
Microsoft is thrilled to announce the rollout of a new update for the Copilot app on Windows, designed to enhance user experience with several innovative features and improvements.
Semantic file search, now available on Copilot+ PCs, revolutionizes the way users locate files. This feature allows for a more intuitive search experience by enabling natural language queries. Users can simply type phrases like “find images of bridges at sunset on my PC” or “find my CV” to retrieve documents and photos without needing to recall specific file names. The flexibility extends to searching for content descriptions, such as “find the file with the chicken tostada recipe.” To ensure privacy, users can manage permissions regarding what Copilot can access through the Permission settings in the app.
The update also introduces a new Copilot home experience, which consolidates recent apps, files, and conversations for easy access. Users can now receive guided assistance by clicking on a recent application in the “get guided help with your apps” section, initiating a Vision session to facilitate their tasks. Additionally, users can upload recent documents or photos directly into the Copilot chat window, allowing for summarization, object identification, or engaging discussions about the content.
How does Copilot know what files I have? Copilot references the standard Windows “Recent” folder to display files that have been recently accessed on the device. This ensures that users can quickly find their work without compromising privacy, as Copilot does not scan the entire system or upload files automatically. Only files compatible with Copilot and accessed recently will appear in the list. When users choose to attach a file, they grant Copilot permission to process it, ensuring that nothing is shared without explicit consent.
With the Vision feature, users can receive real-time guidance based on their screen content or attach files for summaries, insights, and helpful suggestions. Whether engaged in planning, creating, or catching up, Copilot stands ready to assist.
This update (version 1.25082.132.0 and higher) is being gradually rolled out across all Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store. As these features become available, not all Insiders will receive the update immediately. Microsoft is eager to preview these enhancements with Insiders to ensure a superior Copilot experience for all users.
FEEDBACK: Users are encouraged to provide feedback directly within the Copilot app by clicking on their profile icon and selecting “Give feedback.”
Thank you,
Microsoft Copilot Team
