Sound the alarm: Google Clock is now getting an Expressive overhaul

The latest iteration of the Google Clock app is making its way to users, presenting a series of visual enhancements that align with the Material 3 Expressive design philosophy. This update, identified as version 8.1, introduces a variety of changes that elevate the user experience, even if it does not encompass all the features previously anticipated from earlier leaks.

Among the most striking updates are the distinct backgrounds for active alarms, which not only add a splash of color but also facilitate quick identification of which alarms are currently enabled. The revamped alarm setup screen allows users to personalize their alarms by adjusting names, sounds, applicable days, and even toggling features like vibration and weather forecasts. Additionally, users can now integrate Assistant routines or delete alarms with ease.

The interface for snoozing or stopping alarms has also been refined, replacing the previous slider design with two clearly defined buttons. This enhancement, coupled with the display of the phone’s wallpaper instead of a plain background, contributes to a more engaging visual experience. The stopwatch feature has not been overlooked either, boasting larger buttons for stopping, resetting, and completing laps, thus improving usability.

Where’s the redesigned timer section?

While the much-anticipated redesign of the timer section did not make its official debut in this version, a bit of exploration allowed us to unlock it. The new timer interface features a more prominent font for hours, minutes, and seconds, enhancing readability. Notably, it eliminates the built-in number pad, streamlining the timer-setting process. Furthermore, the updated layout accommodates smaller timers, enabling users to view multiple timers simultaneously without excessive scrolling.
