The latest Windows 11 update, designated as 25H2, is now available for testing in the Release Preview Channel. This update is anticipated to be a swift installation process, primarily because its features have already been introduced in earlier updates. Users can expect a seamless transition from the previous version, 24H2, which has been gradually rolling out enhancements throughout the year.
Update Features and Changes
While Microsoft has not disclosed an extensive list of new features or changes for the 25H2 update, it has confirmed that it retains the same enhancements as its predecessor. Notably, this update includes some removals, such as PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC). For enterprise and educational customers, an important addition is the capability for IT administrators to remove certain pre-installed Microsoft Store applications via Group Policy or MDM CSP.
As outlined by Microsoft in June, the update process from 24H2 to 25H2 requires only a single restart. This is made possible by the shared servicing branch, which allows new features to be added in prior updates but remain inactive until the enablement package is applied.
To access the 25H2 update, users can join the Release Preview Channel. Simply navigate to the Windows Update section in the settings and select the option to install the latest version, which is Build 26200.5074.
