A new 16GB AMD Radeon gaming GPU just launched with truly bizarre specs

AMD has introduced the Radeon RX 7700, a new 16GB graphics card that draws from the previous generation’s RDNA 3 architecture. This launch comes as a surprise, especially considering the RX 7700’s specifications diverge significantly from its predecessor, the RX 7700 XT, which features only 12GB of VRAM and was released two years ago. Targeted at gamers who enjoy 1440p resolutions, AMD claims that this GPU can handle several contemporary titles, including Hogwarts Legacy and Ghost of Tsushima, at frame rates exceeding 60fps.

Among the games highlighted is Call of Duty Black Ops 6, which AMD asserts can achieve 71fps at 1440p with ultra settings on the new RX 7700. While this performance is commendable, it faces stiff competition; the recently reviewed Radeon RX 9060 XT managed to run the same game at 76fps using the higher extreme preset at the same resolution. This raises the question of whether the RX 7700 will be priced attractively enough to entice buyers. Furthermore, Black Ops 6 supports FSR 4, which enhances the frame rate to an impressive 102fps on the Quality setting.
