Hytale, a game reminiscent of the beloved Minecraft, has experienced a remarkable turnaround after its initial cancellation. This ambitious indie project, which has captivated a dedicated fanbase since its inception in 2015, is set to enter early access soon, much to the delight of its supporters. While Minecraft emphasizes creativity and resource gathering, Hytale distinguishes itself with its RPG-like depth, offering players a rich combat experience and intricate mechanics within a procedurally-generated fantasy world.
Hytale Is Saved and Fans Can Play It Soon
The journey of Hytale took a significant turn when Hypixel Studios, the developer behind the game, was acquired by Riot Games, the powerhouse known for titles like League of Legends and Valorant. This acquisition initially promised enhanced resources and marketing support. However, in an unexpected twist earlier this year, Riot Games announced the cancellation of Hytale, leaving fans disheartened and uncertain about the game’s future.
In a surprising development, Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme revealed that the team has successfully repurchased 100% of Hytale and the studio from Riot Games. This decision was made with the players’ best interests in mind, as Riot sought to ensure that the game could thrive under the right circumstances. With renewed vigor, the team has secured a decade of funding and welcomed back 30 developers who possess a deep understanding of the game’s vision. They are now gearing up for the early access launch, with the release date and pricing details expected to be announced shortly.
Huge thanks to Riot for working with me to make this happen. They wanted what’s best for players, and that’s for us to eventually play the game. This game has always been close to my heart, and I’m excited to bring it back home. Real talk: Hytale isn’t some polished AAA release…— Simon (@Simon_Hypixel) November 17, 2025
In a detailed blog post, the team expressed their commitment to a thoughtful development process, indicating that Hytale will remain in early access for several years. They aim to collaborate closely with the community, ensuring that player feedback shapes the game’s evolution. The anticipation surrounding Hytale is palpable, as fans eagerly await the opportunity to engage with the game after such a long journey. Initially available on PC, the developers have hinted at the possibility of expanding to “other platforms” in the future, though that will be addressed at a later stage.
