Steam is poised to elevate the utility of its user reviews by introducing a feature that allows gamers to share their hardware specifications. This initiative aims to assist prospective players in determining whether they can expect a similar gaming experience based on shared technical details. Currently available in the latest beta version, this feature will be accessible via a checkbox in the right-hand panel, labeled Attach PC specs to this review.
Users will have the option to create a reusable profile for their hardware specifications, streamlining the review process by eliminating the need to repeatedly input this information for future reviews. This development appears to be a response to the growing trend among users who have been including their computer specifications in written reviews, signaling Steam’s commitment to fostering a more informative community.
While the specifics of how these hardware specs will be displayed on storefront review pages remain uncertain, the potential for enhanced transparency is clear. Additionally, the beta introduces a new feature for SteamOS users, enabling them to anonymously share frame rate data. This data collection aims to assist Steam in assessing game compatibility and enhancing the overall gaming experience for users. According to the release notes, “When enabled, Steam will collect gameplay framerate data, stored without connection to your Steam account but identified with the kind of hardware you are playing on.”
Moreover, users now have the ability to provide written feedback if they disagree with a Deck Verified rating on the platform, promoting a more interactive and engaging review environment. Other enhancements included in this beta update address various issues, such as a glitch that previously hindered some gamers from installing new titles due to the size of their libraries.
