Recent Developments in Anna’s Archive Music Release

In a notable turn of events, the administrators of Anna’s Archive have made available a staggering 6.4 terabytes of music, allegedly sourced from Spotify, despite facing a legal challenge. Social media users have reported the presence of torrents on the platform that collectively house over 2.8 million audio files.

The audio tracks are distributed across 47 torrents. A Reddit user in the DataHoarder community remarked, “It seems they currently have only one seeder operating at a very low speed, but I can confirm that the hash of the four files I managed to download matches the hash from the metadata database they published.” This observation lends some credibility to the claims surrounding the torrents.

According to Torrentfreak.com, the recently released torrents indeed contain music files ranging from several hundred kilobytes to a few megabytes. These files come equipped with embedded media information and metadata, including details such as the song title, album, artist, and publisher, along with cover art in some instances. However, it appears that the release primarily features lesser-known tracks, tagged with the label “pop_0.” Spotify’s algorithm assigns a popularity score to tracks, ranging from 0 to 100, based on total listens and the recency of those listens.

This release represents only a fraction of the claimed 300 terabytes of data encompassing 86 million listens, which corresponds to an impressive 99.6% of all listens on Spotify. Previously, Anna’s Archive announced on its blog that the data would be released incrementally. The library has already issued a torrent file of 200 GB, containing a metadata database of 256 million tracks and 186 million unique International Standard Recording Codes (ISRC).

In response to these developments, Spotify has confirmed that it has identified and blocked “unauthorized user accounts engaged in illegal data collection.” Subsequently, the streaming giant, alongside major record labels, filed a staggering trillion lawsuit against the operators of the library. This figure is calculated based on the maximum allowable statutory damages of 0,000 for each work. The plaintiffs have already secured a court order mandating domain registrars to block several domains associated with Anna’s Archive, including .org.

In light of the lawsuit, the shadow library has temporarily removed its dedicated section for downloading Spotify content, marking it as unavailable until further notice. However, there have been no public comments from the administrators since this action.

Moreover, the resource may face challenges in storing this extensive data due to the rapid increase in storage prices. A Reddit user expressed disbelief, stating, “I can’t believe a 6 TB hard drive costs 0 in my area.” To accommodate the entire stolen music archive, a minimum of 50 such drives would be required.
