A significant update for Crimson Desert has been released, showcasing Pearl Abyss’s commitment to enhancing the player experience in its expansive open-world game. While the spotlight shines on the introduction of five remarkable new mounts—details to follow—there’s a wealth of improvements and features that players will find equally compelling.
Enhanced Gameplay Experience
The latest patch notes, spanning approximately 100 lines, reveal a host of enhancements aimed at refining mobility and accessibility within the game. Players will notice an immediate improvement in movement controls, with sprinting now achievable through a simple key tap or hold. This adjustment eliminates the need for continuous key pressing, allowing for a more fluid navigation experience. Additionally, the responsiveness of turning has been heightened, facilitating easier maneuvering in tight spaces.
Stamina consumption has also been optimized; players will expend less stamina while sprinting and flying, and can now utilize equipment mid-flight. A previously encountered issue that hindered the initiation of flight has been resolved. However, the Aerial Stab ability has been slightly nerfed, with increasing stamina costs for consecutive uses, although Pearl Abyss assures players that it remains a viable and enjoyable movement mechanic. Meanwhile, both Aerial Maneuver and Aerial Swing now consume less stamina, encouraging their use. Players can also roll and evade while executing focus skills, and enemies will exhibit reduced aggression during player revivals.
Accessibility Improvements
In a bid to enhance the overall accessibility of the game world, several tweaks have been implemented. The interaction range for engaging with NPCs has been expanded, and object interactions are now smoother. New weak-point indicator effects for various elements have been introduced, along with an aim key guide for tools and a warning message for weapon drawing in restricted areas. Inventory controls have transitioned to a more intuitive system, allowing for left-click selection and right-click or double-click usage.
Players can now fix the minimap with North oriented at the top, and new icons have been added to denote the locations of keys and anvils. The notifications menu has received a polish, increasing the maximum storage capacity to 2,000 notifications. Cooking and crafting menus now group similar recipes together, while the knowledge screen allows for simultaneous viewing of main and subcategories.
Quality of Life Enhancements
Criminal actions will no longer impact contribution scores unless witnessed by NPCs, and the private storage chest in Howling Hill Camp has been relocated to Kliff’s tent for added convenience. Pickpockets have been programmed to be less likely to flee into houses, and interactions with locked doors now prompt players to choose whether to use a key. Pets have also been improved, becoming more adept at looting during combat and remaining closer to the action.
Efficiency upgrades have been made to several buildings and tools, including wells, the Mining Knuckledrill, and the Demenissian Chainsaw. Additionally, new materials chests have been scattered across Pywel, and the treasure detection range on the Pirate King Hat has been expanded. The maximum camera distance in photo mode has been widened, and various turn-ins, such as shop item knowledge, can now be handled in a single action. Fast travel and respawn loading times have been enhanced, and the whiteout effect on the retry screen has been eliminated. Pearl Abyss has also improved rendering for translucent materials, such as hair and fur, when utilizing high-end ray tracing settings.
New Mounts to Discover
For those eager to learn about the new mounts, the update introduces five new options: the legendary White Bear, Silver Fang, and Snowwhite Deer, alongside the Rock Tusk Warthog and the Icicle Edge Alpine Ibex. Players who have previously captured these creatures will automatically receive the corresponding mount. Pearl Abyss reassures players that “the people of Pywel are not afraid of tamed animals,” encouraging them to showcase their new mounts around town.
Crimson Desert patch 1.01.00 is now available on Steam for PC and Mac, with plans for deployment on the Epic Games Store forthcoming. As I continue my journey through Pywel, I eagerly anticipate integrating these exciting changes into my gameplay experience this week.
