Dota 2 patch 7.41b puts a stop to Meepo’s reign of terror as Valve locks in its new meta

Big balance updates can often have long-reaching ramifications, and Dota 2 patch 7.41b marks Valve’s second follow-up to the significant overhaul that saw the removal of Facets from the MOBA. Following the climax of the ESL One Birmingham tournament, players have had additional time to assess the current meta and identify which heroes are thriving and which are struggling.

Patch Highlights

The latest Dota 2 update brings a much-needed nerf for Meepo, a hero that has proven to be particularly formidable in skilled hands. The patch notes reveal several heroes and items being adjusted back from previous buffs or nerfs that were deemed excessive. While these changes are not as dramatic as those introduced at the end of March, they are expected to have a noticeable impact on gameplay.

Among the key adjustments, the new Consecrated Wraps item has undergone a transformation. The item now offers a lower bonus to attributes but provides all three charges immediately. Players will no longer need to max out stacks for the speed boost, although the initial charges will not grant this benefit. Additionally, the charges will accumulate more slowly, will be consumed all at once when the damage barrier is created, and will no longer be influenced by cooldown-modifying effects.

In terms of hero adjustments, Meepo faces penalties to his maximum health and mana bonuses derived from items based on the number of clones created. Furthermore, the cooldown for Megameepo has been increased by 50%, now standing at 90 seconds. Other significant changes include a reduction in health steal from Ransack, decreased strength gain throughout the match, and a slight drop in base movement speed.

Other notable nerfs include adjustments to Doom, whose damage scaling on Scorched Earth has been lowered, alongside a reduction in early damage output for his Doom ability. Additionally, Tidehunter’s Innate ability, Leviathan’s Catch, now grants a fish every other level instead of with each level, while his starting strength has been slightly decreased. Ember Spirit also sees a reduction in base damage and an increase in the mana cost for Sleight of Fist at lower levels.

On the brighter side, some heroes have received boosts. Timbersaw benefits from enhanced scaling, with improvements to the power of Whirling Death, Timber Chain, and Chakram as players level up. Invoker’s Invoke skill now grants an additional ability point at hero levels six, 12, and 18, while Broodmother enjoys increased base agility, making last hits easier during the laning phase.

Chaos Knight, known for his unpredictability, now grants three clones at all levels with Phantasm, though their damage has been adjusted to 50% at rank one, 75% at rank two, and full damage at max rank. The low-level cooldown has also seen a slight increase, leaving players to decide whether they prefer this new iteration over the previous one.

Dota 2 patch 7.41b is out now. The full patch notes are available from Valve, detailing numerous smaller tweaks that players should familiarize themselves with to stay updated on their favorite heroes.

Additionally, Drow Ranger players should note her increased starting agility, which translates to higher base damage. However, her Marksmanship ability can now be disabled by enemies within proximity while she is on the Glacier created by her Aghanim’s Shard ability. Meanwhile, Nyx Assassin players may feel disheartened by the reduction in Vendetta’s duration, limiting their time to maneuver stealthily, although they will no longer need to contend with true sight from the Book of the Dead.
