Roblox is changing the eligibility to upload games on the platform

Roblox, a platform renowned for its vibrant gaming community, is taking significant strides to enhance the safety of its younger audience. While titles like Grow a Garden have captured the imagination of players, the platform has also faced challenges with less savory content. Recognizing the need for a safer environment, Roblox is implementing new measures aimed at curbing the publication of inappropriate games.

New Publishing Requirements

To publish games on Roblox, developers must now adhere to specific criteria that vary based on the target audience of their creations. These changes are designed to ensure that young players are shielded from potentially harmful experiences while still allowing them to enjoy the best games available on the platform.

  • For games intended for all ages, developers are required to:
    • Subscribe to Roblox Plus
    • Pass ID verification and age checks
    • Enable two-factor authentication
    • Maintain an account status deemed “in good standing”

This multi-faceted approach aims to deter malicious actors from easily creating new accounts to publish harmful content, thereby protecting the younger demographic that forms the core of Roblox’s player base.

  • For games aimed at players aged 16 and older, the requirements include:
    • Having an account in “good standing”
    • Maintaining an account that is at least two days old
    • Passing the same age verification checks

Importantly, these stipulations do not apply to developers who create games solely for personal enjoyment without the intention of sharing them with others.

Roblox emphasizes that these changes are part of a broader strategy to strengthen their moderation systems and ensure a safe gaming environment for all users. The rollout of these new requirements is set to begin in early June, marking a proactive step towards safeguarding the platform’s integrity.
