Logitech’s new gaming keyboard lets you hot swap analog and mechanical switches

Logitech has unveiled an innovative addition to its gaming lineup with the introduction of the Logitech G512 X, a groundbreaking gaming keyboard that seamlessly transitions between analog TMR switches and traditional mechanical switches. This unique feature empowers users to enjoy the benefits of an analog keyboard while retaining the option to swap in their preferred mechanical switches for typing tasks.

Modular Performance Redefined

For those who appreciate the gaming advantages of analog technology but are reluctant to sacrifice the tactile sensation of mechanical switches, the G512 X presents a compelling solution. Logitech envisions this keyboard as a transformative step towards a modular, performance-oriented system that can be personalized to meet individual gaming preferences. The company describes it as “crafted for players who want performance that’s personal.”

The G512 X boasts an impressive 39 swappable keyswitch locations, accommodating both TMR analog switches and standard 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical keyswitches. This versatility allows users to customize their experience with a variety of options, from the classic click of Cherry MX Blues to the tactile feedback of Gazzew Boba U4T switches, or even the nine Gateron KS-20 analog switches that come pre-installed.

Enhanced Gaming Experience

One of the standout features of the G512 X is its ability to deliver analog input functions akin to those found on gamepad triggers or thumbsticks. Gamers can map WASD keys for analog directional movement or utilize Ctrl and Shift for precise control in racing games, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.

Moreover, the keyboard supports dual-actuation points, enabling a single key to perform one action when pressed lightly and a different function when pressed more firmly. This capability is a hallmark of analog keyboards, and Logitech has added Second Actuation Pressure Point (SAPP) rings to provide tactile feedback upon reaching the second actuation point.

Performance and Design

The G512 X is a wired-only keyboard featuring a “true” 8kHz report rate, ensuring ultra-fast input response. Coupled with the ability to activate snap tap and rapid trigger modes through the analog keys, this keyboard is poised to deliver peak performance for avid gamers.

Available in two form factors—75% (G512 X 75) and 98% (G512 X 98)—the G512 X caters to different user preferences, although the compact design may leave full-size keyboard enthusiasts wanting. Notably, the G512 X 98 includes a numpad for those who require it.

With a striking black and purple aesthetic, the G512 X features a Lightsync RGB light bar and supports backlit keys, provided the chosen keyswitches have this capability.

The G512 X is set to launch on May 2, with pricing established at 9.99 / £169.99 / €189.99 for the G512 X 75 and 9.99 / £199.99 / €219.99 for the G512 X 98.
