Gemini can now generate PDFs, Word, and Excel files so you don’t have to

Google’s Gemini has taken a significant step forward, addressing a long-standing user request with the introduction of file creation and download capabilities directly within chat conversations. Users can now generate a variety of document types, including PDFs, Microsoft Word and Excel files, as well as Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, all without the hassle of exporting to another application.

What you need to know

  • Gemini can now create and download files like PDFs, Word, Excel, and Google Docs directly within chats.
  • You no longer need to copy and paste content, as Gemini can generate files in your desired format instantly.
  • Supported formats include Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, RTF, and Markdown files.

Previously, users faced the tedious task of copying, pasting, and reformatting their content manually. With this new feature, Gemini simplifies the process by allowing users to request specific formats directly. For instance, one can now ask Gemini to transform a budget into an Excel sheet or convert notes into a PDF or Word document seamlessly.

While the update is a welcome enhancement, it is important to note that direct export to Microsoft PowerPoint is currently unavailable. However, users can still export their work to Google Slides and subsequently download it as a PPT file. This feature is set to roll out to all Gemini users starting today, although some may experience a gradual implementation.

Android Central’s Take

This update marks a pivotal moment for Gemini, and many believe it deserves more fanfare. The demand for such a feature has been palpable since the chatbot’s inception, and its quiet introduction through a blog post feels somewhat understated given its potential impact on user experience.
