Ever since the launch of LEGO Star Wars, my affinity for the LEGO games developed by TT Games has only grown. These titles have consistently captured my attention, and the recent innovations introduced in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga have only heightened my enthusiasm. Now, my anticipation is directed toward the forthcoming release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, a game that evokes memories of the Arkham series, albeit in a delightful LEGO rendition. However, I find myself pondering the game’s compatibility with the Steam Deck, especially after examining the recently released PC specifications.
Concerns Over Optimization
While the announced PC specs suggest that the game should be playable, I can’t help but notice several concerning indicators. The minimum requirements for CPU, GPU, and RAM appear adequate for the Steam Deck. Yet, the detailed specifications raise some eyebrows, particularly the mention of upscaling and frame generation as prerequisites. This inclusion, especially when targeting 1080p resolution, is troubling.
In truth, the entire system requirement sheet feels like a warning sign. Frame generation is factored into various sections, even for those aiming for 4K gameplay. Although the hardware demands themselves are not overly taxing, the reliance on upscaling and frame generation for optimization is disconcerting. Ideally, these technologies should enhance an already well-optimized experience, rather than serve as crutches for subpar performance. My apprehension lies in the possibility that this may not be the case here.
Moreover, the recommendation of frame generation at a mere 30 FPS is particularly alarming. Frame generation is typically employed to elevate games that have already achieved 60 FPS, allowing them to reach higher framerates suitable for monitors with refresh rates of 120 Hz or more. Thus, I sincerely hope that the inclusion of frame generation for 30 FPS at the minimum settings was an oversight. If not, such a recommendation could be detrimental to the gaming experience.
With LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight set to release in just three weeks, the wait to determine its optimization status is nearly over. However, based on the current specifications, there are valid concerns that warrant attention.
For those eager to dive into this new adventure, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is available for pre-purchase at .99 ahead of its May 22nd launch.
