InPVP acquires Feather Client, rebrands as Dawn

In a significant shift within the gaming landscape, InPVP has announced its acquisition of Feather Client, a well-known third-party Minecraft launcher. This move, revealed by InPVP owner Mohamed “PizzaMC” Weheba during the UGCon conference in Las Vegas, marks a strategic pivot for both companies as they navigate the complexities of the gaming community.

Acquisition Details

Rather than acquiring Feather Client’s launcher outright, InPVP is focusing on the underlying in-game technology, aiming to integrate Feather’s extensive user base, which numbers in the millions. As part of this transition, Feather Client’s parent company, Silentstack, will roll out an update that introduces a completely new launcher, aptly named Dawn. Weheba emphasized the nature of the acquisition, stating, “It’s 100 percent a sale of the assets,” clarifying that he is not taking on the liabilities associated with Feather Client’s previous management.

The acquisition comes at a time when Feather Client is facing scrutiny following allegations of ad fraud, brought to light by YouTube creator CalebIsSalty. The viral video claimed that Feather’s launcher had been inflating ad impressions through background activity, raising concerns about the integrity of its operations. Weheba’s cautious approach to the acquisition reflects the potential risks involved, yet he sees an opportunity for revitalization amidst the controversy.

Future Plans for Dawn

Weheba has ambitious plans for Dawn, although he does not expect the client to turn a profit within its first year under new management. His strategy includes reducing reliance on ad monetization and shifting focus towards direct-to-consumer revenue streams, such as the sale of cosmetics and in-game items. Additionally, he aims to enhance user experience by implementing features like a profanity filter for the integrated voice chat and collaborating with the competitive Minecraft organization MCPVP to host tournaments and ranking battles.

“Something that MCPVP really likes is how fast I can move and how committed I am,” Weheba noted, highlighting his commitment with a pledge of 0,000 towards tournaments this year.

Partnerships and Support

In a further sign of confidence in the new direction, Aditude, Feather’s former ad tech provider, has resumed its partnership with the newly rebranded Dawn. Aditude’s senior vice president of games, Yuriy Yarovoy, expressed optimism about Weheba’s leadership, viewing him as an ideal steward for the Feather community. “Given that Mo is rebuilding Dawn from the ground up and using Aditude’s guidance on monetization deployment, we are confident that our standards and practices will be followed accordingly,” Yarovoy stated. This collaboration aims to position Dawn as a premium desktop app publisher, focusing on maximizing revenue while delivering value to advertisers targeting the Minecraft audience.
