Google’s wallpaper-based Gemini redesign is finally rolling out to users

Google is making strides in enhancing user experience with the rollout of wallpaper-based theming for Gemini within the Google app. This feature, which had previously been under wraps during internal testing, is now making its debut in beta builds, much to the delight of users eager for a fresh aesthetic.

Dynamic Adaptation to User Preferences

Earlier this year, reports from Android Authority indicated that Google was exploring the integration of Material You color theming for Gemini. Initially, this feature was hidden and required manual activation, but it has now transitioned to a more accessible format. Users on beta versions, including those using the Pixel 9 with version 17.27.33.sa.arm64, have begun to notice the redesign in action.

This update aligns Gemini more closely with the Material You design philosophy, which emphasizes personalization and adaptability. The interface now dynamically adjusts to harmonize with the colors of the user’s wallpaper, moving away from the previous static white-and-blue scheme that characterized Gemini.

Currently, these changes are primarily visible in Gemini’s floating overlay UI. When users invoke Gemini over their home screen or other applications, the floating bar adopts a subtle tint that reflects the system theme. Additionally, the Gemini Live button showcases a darker accent color that draws inspiration from the wallpaper palette.

However, it is worth noting that the main Gemini interface has yet to fully embrace dynamic theming. This suggests that Google may be implementing a phased approach, starting with smaller elements of the interface before rolling out a more comprehensive redesign in the future.
