June 12, 2026
Widespread Outages Affect Meta’s Social Media Platforms
A significant disruption has been reported across a suite of popular social media applications, including Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger. According to data from Down Detector, a website dedicated to tracking outages, over 100,000 users have collectively noted issues with these platforms, all of which are under the umbrella of Meta.
In the wake of these outages, many users have turned to alternative social media channels, such as X and Threads, to voice their frustrations. Comments have poured in, highlighting a range of problems. Some users have found themselves unable to send messages or switch between accounts on Instagram, while others have experienced automatic logouts from Facebook, with no apparent way to log back in.
“Is Facebook down? Not able to comment or post. And it automatically logged me out,” tweeted @aaronthomastv.
“Instagram appears to be impacted too. Must be a Meta issue,” they added.
As of Friday morning, Meta has not issued any official statement addressing the ongoing issues. Reports indicate that the disruptions are being felt globally, leaving users in various regions grappling with the sudden unavailability of these widely used platforms. The Express-News has reached out to the California-based tech giant for further clarification but has yet to receive a response.
