Steam Hardware & Software Survey Insights for June 2026
Valve has released its June 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey, revealing that many of the trends observed in previous months are continuing to evolve. The landscape of operating systems remains dynamic, with Windows 11 steadily gaining traction at the expense of its predecessor, Windows 10. Currently, Windows 11 commands a substantial 70.44% of the user base, marking an increase of 0.68 percentage points from May. In contrast, Windows 10 has experienced a slight decline, now holding 23.56%, down 0.43% from the previous month. Interestingly, Windows 7 persists, with a small fraction of users—0.07%—still opting for this legacy operating system.
Overall, Windows maintains a dominant presence on Steam, accounting for 94.10% of the user base. Meanwhile, macOS has made modest gains, rising to 2.21%, while Linux has seen a slight dip, now sitting at 3.69%. Among the various Linux distributions, SteamOS Holo leads the pack with a usage share of 0.84%, just ahead of CachyOS.
On the hardware front, trends have remained relatively stable. The standard configuration of 16GB of RAM is present in 41.57% of systems, while the 1920×1080 resolution continues to be favored by just over half of all users. However, the 2560×1440 resolution is steadily gaining ground.
In the graphics processing unit (GPU) arena, the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU has surpassed the RTX 3060 to become the most commonly used card this month, now representing 3.81% of the user base, compared to the RTX 3060’s 3.73%. Given the ongoing challenges in the hardware market, it is unsurprising that a significant number of users still rely on 8GB of VRAM. However, 16GB is making notable strides, now utilized by 24.50% of users, reflecting a 0.45% increase from last month.
The competition between Intel and AMD for CPU supremacy continues to be a focal point. Currently, Intel holds a slight edge with 54.01% of the market share, while AMD closely follows at 45.99%. This gap has been gradually narrowing over the past year and a half; for context, Intel’s share was a commanding 68.8% back in January 2025, indicating that AMD has successfully reclaimed nearly 14 points since then.
For those interested in a deeper dive into the data, the complete results are available on Steam’s official survey page, along with last month’s statistics for comparison.
