Meccha Chameleon ranks second behind Fortnite in PC revenue for June

In a remarkable turn of events, the indie game Meccha Chameleon has emerged as a formidable contender in the gaming market, achieving the second-highest revenue for PC titles in June, just behind the juggernaut Fortnite. Developed by the creative duo Lemorion_1224 and Hagneiro, this vibrant title launched on June 10 and has already surpassed 15 million copies sold, marking a significant milestone in its early days. It also made a noteworthy debut at No. 6 on Newzoo’s PC engagement charts.

This impressive sales figure eclipses the performance of other popular titles, such as Lethal Company, which managed over 10 million units in its first six months, and Fall Guys, which reached seven million in just one month. Mert Şahin, a market analyst at Newzoo, commented, “Its rapid commercial success shows that lower-budget, socially driven multiplayer experiences can achieve significant commercial results alongside major franchises.”

Engagement Rankings and Industry Insights

In the realm of life simulation games, Paralives has positioned itself just above The Sims 4, claiming the No. 7 spot, while Dead by Daylight has climbed 16 places to reach No. 10, buoyed by its tenth anniversary celebrations. Şahin further noted, “This demonstrates how long-running live-service titles can sustain commercial momentum through ongoing investment in content and community.”

Newzoo’s June report also highlighted a pre-order ranking chart, with Grand Theft Auto 6 leading as the highest-grossing console title based on just five days of pre-orders. Set to launch on November 19, Rockstar’s eagerly awaited title has already generated an estimated 0 million globally from pre-orders alone.

The engagement rankings from Newzoo revealed minimal fluctuations across both PC and console platforms, with enduring titles like Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Minecraft, Roblox, and League of Legends continuing to attract a larger player base than many recent releases. Notably, Obsidian’s Grounded has made a significant leap, climbing over 250 places to No. 16 on the console engagement charts following its release on PlayStation Plus. “This shows how multi-game subscription services can extend the lifecycle of established titles by reconnecting them with new and returning players,” Şahin remarked.
