Celebrating 25 Years of Ghost Recon
As November 13 approaches, marking the 25th anniversary of Ubisoft’s iconic Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, the company is poised to kick off the festivities with a significant update to Ghost Recon Wildlands. This update promises to deliver substantial visual and gameplay enhancements, alongside an intriguing new mission set in a “darker, more oppressive Bolivia.” This fictional portrayal of Bolivia serves as the backdrop for Wildlands, where the country has fallen under the control of a formidable drug cartel, prompting the United States to deploy the elite Ghosts for a mission that emphasizes peace through superior firepower.
However, the game’s narrative has not been without controversy; the actual Bolivian government previously expressed its discontent by filing a formal complaint with the French government regarding the game’s depiction of their country. Despite the initial backlash, the game has evolved significantly since its release, transforming into a chaotic simulator where players can experience the thrill of high-speed chases and daring stunts, albeit sometimes with unintended comedic results.
In anticipation of the anniversary, Ubisoft is enhancing Wildlands on both PC and current-generation consoles. Players can expect smoother combat mechanics, improved distance rendering, enhanced lighting and shadows, and a sharper image optimized for 4K resolution. This update comes as a response to the mixed reception the game initially received, showcasing Ubisoft’s commitment to refining the player experience.
In addition to the Wildlands update, players of Ghost Recon Breakpoint will receive a complimentary 25th anniversary bundle in September, further enriching the celebration. Moreover, both Wildlands and Breakpoint are available for free play over the weekend on Ubisoft Connect, with steep discounts on Steam—.49 for Wildlands and for Breakpoint, making these titles exceptionally accessible for new players.
