Immortality creator Sam Barlow reveals his next game: A tale of visions of the future, and why they’re not always great

Unveiling Precognition: A New Chapter in Interactive Storytelling

In a much-anticipated reveal during the Kinetic Publishing Showcase, Sam Barlow, the visionary behind the acclaimed game Immortality, introduced his latest project, codenamed Project C. Now officially titled Precognition, this sci-fi thriller emerges from a collaboration between Barlow’s Half Mermaid Productions and the talented horror director Brandon Cronenberg, son of the legendary David Cronenberg.

Players will step into the shoes of Diana, a woman who undergoes an experimental procedure that implants a device in her brain, granting her the ability to glimpse into the future. However, in a twist reminiscent of the tales of Cassandra and the complexities of quantum mechanics, Diana’s newfound power comes with significant consequences. As she delves into her visions and attempts to anchor them in her present-day memory, she inadvertently alters the very future she seeks to understand.

Critics have already begun to weigh in, with early reviews lauding Precognition as “Sam Barlow’s best, most thought-provoking game yet.” This praise is particularly noteworthy, considering the high bar set by Barlow’s previous works, including the critically acclaimed titles Telling Lies and Her Story.

While the excitement builds around this innovative narrative experience, fans will need to exercise patience; Precognition is projected for release in the spring of 2028. In the meantime, eager players can add it to their wishlist on Steam, marking the beginning of what promises to be another captivating journey in interactive storytelling.
