Publisher and developer Firenut Games, alongside developer Digital Dreams, has unveiled their latest project, the psychological horror game Baptiste, set to launch this fall on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
At the heart of Baptiste lies a narrative-driven adventure featuring Tom, a young boy who unwittingly liberates a haunting doll from its display case, embarking on a chilling journey filled with fear and uncertainty. Through Tom’s perspective, the game delves into the profound impacts of tragedy and loss, illustrating how such experiences can shatter a family’s reality and how a child grapples with the emotional aftermath of devastating events.
Drawing inspiration from iconic horror narratives, Baptiste echoes elements from the infamous possessed doll Annabelle and R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps tale, Night of the Living Dummy. It also pays homage to beloved psychological horror games like P.T., Layers of Fear, and the Outlast series. Players will navigate an ominous mansion, piecing together clues and solving intricate puzzles to unveil the dark secrets surrounding the living doll that lends the game its name.
After experiencing a family tragedy, Sara and her son Tom relocate to Jagged Shore Cliff in search of a fresh start. However, their new home quickly spirals into a nightmare. Within a dusty cabinet lies Baptiste, an unsettling doll accompanied by a foreboding warning: “Never release this from its glass prison.” What was meant to be a sanctuary transforms into a battleground of sanity and survival, challenging their resolve in unimaginable ways.
Rather than relying on conventional jump scares, Baptiste offers a unique interpretation of the psychological horror genre, intertwining atmospheric tension with emotional depth. The game explores the fracturing of reality through the lens of a child coping with intense trauma, while also examining the descent into madness. It blurs the boundaries between reality and nightmare, reflecting the fragile state of the mind under extreme emotional distress and crafting a poignant narrative of human vulnerability.
