In a recent update, Google Clock has unveiled a revamped Timers tab, enhancing user experience with a fresh design that aligns with the new app icon introduced just yesterday. This update comes on the heels of improvements made to the Now Playing app, showcasing Google’s commitment to refining its suite of applications.
Streamlined Timer Functionality
The standout feature of this redesign is the introduction of preset timers for 1, 5, 10, and 15 minutes. Users can now initiate these timers with a simple tap, allowing for a more intuitive and efficient countdown experience. The interface has also seen a subtle yet impactful change, with the labels for Hours, Minutes, and Seconds replacing the previous abbreviations of h, m, and s, making it clearer at a glance.
At the bottom of the screen, a prominent green “Start” button has taken the place of the former icon, enhancing visibility and accessibility. Additionally, the number pad has undergone a transformation; it no longer features circular backgrounds, resulting in a flatter appearance that contributes to a busier yet more efficient interface.
Optimized Screen Real Estate
For users managing multiple timers, Google has optimized the layout by introducing a grid format, replacing the previous scrollable list. This change significantly improves the use of screen real estate, making it easier to navigate through active timers. The design for single timers remains unchanged, but the pause button has been repositioned within the circular countdown, while the reset option is now conveniently located outside of it.
This Timers redesign is part of a server-side update associated with version 9.1 of Google Clock. For those who have yet to see these enhancements, a quick force stop from the app’s info settings may prompt the update to appear.
