Reform UK Launches Controversial App “Small Boat Watch”
Far-right political party Reform UK has stirred up controversy with the release of their new iOS and Android app, Small Boat Watch. The app features a game called Small Boat Scramble, where players are tasked with repelling small boats carrying immigrants from reaching British shores in order to achieve a high score.
The game is only accessible once users sign up using their email, exit the app, and then reopen it. A ‘Play’ tab will then appear in the bottom menu for users to start the game.
In Small Boat Scramble, players must bounce small boats back across the screen to prevent them from reaching the shore. As the game progresses, a larger ‘Boris wave’ of boats appears, referencing the increased number of immigrants that entered the UK under former prime minister Boris Johnson.
Currently, the game has attracted 6,524 players on its leaderboard. While reports suggest a £5,000 prize for the top scorer, this information is not confirmed within the app itself.
Both the app and game have a simplistic design and seem to have been created using AI coding tools like Claude. The user interface resembles many other amateur apps flooding the app stores.
This controversial app from Reform UK follows a trend set by the Trump White House, which released MAGA-style games on its website. These games offered far-right versions of popular mobile games and were also suspected to be developed using AI tools.
