Earlier this week, Microsoft acknowledged a bug affecting Excel’s copy and paste functionality, a glitch that emerged following the September Patch Tuesday update. This significant update, which introduced nearly 1,000 security fixes, also inadvertently brought along a few troublesome bugs that have since raised concerns among users.
Addressing the Issues
In response to the disruptions, Microsoft has rolled out an out-of-band update aimed at resolving various issues, including broken Hyper-V Linux folder shares, Remote Desktop freezes, and USB audio failures. Among these fixes is a dedicated update to rectify the copy and paste problem in Excel.
To assist users in navigating this issue, Microsoft has provided a clear set of instructions in a support document:
- On the Home tab, select the Paste dropdown list, and then choose Paste Special.
- In the Paste Special window, select one of the following options:
- Formulas
- Formulas & Number Formatting
- Values
- Values & Number Formatting
- Link
As the company continues to investigate the root of the issue, users can expect broader fixes in the near future. Meanwhile, Windows 11 is undergoing a refresh designed to alleviate existing pain points within the operating system.
