In a significant turn of events, the organizers of the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) have made the decision to cancel the final day of the event due to the impending arrival of Typhoon No. 25. Originally slated to be a historic five-day affair, this year’s TGS will instead conclude after four days, marking a notable shift in its 30-year history. The cancellation affects ticket holders for Monday, September 21, who will receive refunds.
Safety First Amidst Severe Weather
The decision was communicated via Twitter, where event organizers expressed their commitment to the safety of all participants. They noted that strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected to escalate in the afternoon, raising concerns about transportation disruptions. “Therefore, prioritizing the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, and related parties, as well as ensuring safe return home, we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day,” they stated.
Typhoon Dujuan, the 25th named typhoon of the year, is anticipated to unleash nearly 16 inches of rain on the Kanto region, which includes Tokyo. In response to the severe weather forecast, Nippon Airways has already canceled numerous flights, and the East Japan Railway is either fully or partially suspending service on several lines.
