Switch Emulator Now Available for Jailbroken PS5
If there’s one thing that never ceases to amaze me, it’s the sheer resilience of Switch emulator devs who keep releasing new (and usually better) Nintendo Switch emulators in the face of Nintendo’s litigious past. We’ve seen emulators like this for Android phones, Windows laptops, and even macOS. Now, one developer has pushed the envelope and brought native Switch emulation to the PlayStation 5 (as long as it’s jailbroken).
The newly updated ProsperoEden emulator is a port of the popular Eden emulator, which itself was derived from the famed Yuzu emulator. While Eden supports several platforms, ProsperoEden is purpose-built to run natively on the PlayStation 5.
Although ProsperoEden is an alpha release, it still runs several games at playable frame rates. According to user reports on the emulator’s GitHub, it achieves 60fps in Cuphead and Hollow Knight. It can also run Horizon Chase Turbo, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and Metroid Dread at 40 to 50fps.
The latest ProsperoEden build includes work on the OpenGL implementation to improve rendering and performance. It also improves the emulator’s handling of game loading and of returning to the launcher after a game closes. Users can now set handheld or docked mode per game.
Although user reports on GitHub are promising, the emulator is still in alpha, so you may run into issues when playing Switch games on your PS5. That said, you can grab the latest release for your jailbroken PS5 from the ProsperoEden GitHub repository.
