The Googlebooks include a file transfer trick you probably didn’t know about

The recently launched lineup of Googlebooks has sparked interest among tech enthusiasts, particularly with its innovative features designed to enhance user experience. Among these is the Quick Access functionality, which facilitates seamless file management between a paired Android phone and the Googlebook. This feature allows users to browse, open, and transfer files as effortlessly as navigating a local drive.

To utilize Quick Access, users simply need to open the Files app on their Googlebook and select their paired Android device from the left sidebar. This grants immediate access to the Downloads, Documents, and Camera folders on the phone. While Quick Access supports drag-and-drop functionality, it is important to note that it is limited to files under 200MB. For larger files, Google recommends employing the Quick Share feature.

Another noteworthy addition is the Files AI, which promises to enhance productivity by providing instant descriptions of files without the need to open them. Users can activate this feature by enabling “Boost your productivity with AI” in the Files app and switching to list view. This will introduce a new Description field next to each file name, summarizing its content in just a few words. For example, a payslip might be labeled as “Payslip for September 2026,” while a vacation photo could be described succinctly as “Birthday party” or “Beach trip.”

Files AI Enhancements

Files AI also revolutionizes the file searching experience. Instead of relying solely on file name matches, this intelligent feature allows users to search for an image’s subject directly. For instance, typing in “cat” will yield the relevant image, regardless of whether the term appears in the file name. This capability marks a significant advancement in how users interact with their digital files.

However, these cross-device functionalities come with certain prerequisites. Users will need a device running Android 17 or newer to fully leverage these features, which may raise concerns among potential buyers. Additionally, while Files AI is designed to streamline productivity, it can take up to an hour to activate after being enabled. There are also limitations regarding its functionality during low battery conditions, although specifics on what constitutes a “low battery” state remain unclear.

As the Googlebooks make their debut, the excitement surrounding these features is palpable. Yet, the requirement for an updated Android device could be a point of contention for some users, prompting a closer examination of how these innovations will influence purchasing decisions.
