Google Messages Expands with New Gaming Feature
As Google Messages solidifies its position as the default texting and RCS app on Android devices, the tech giant continues to enhance user experience with a steady stream of innovative features. Recent updates have introduced chat themes and seamless integration with Google Keep, and there are whispers of video calling capabilities over RCS on the horizon.
The next exciting addition may be the introduction of games directly within your chats. This move mirrors a feature already popularized by Apple’s iMessage, known as GamePigeon, positioning Google to achieve feature parity with its primary competitor.
In the latest Google Messages beta update (messages.android2026100200_RC00), developer Abhishek Yadav delved into the app’s files and uncovered plans for a dedicated “Games” section. This discovery hints at a range of games under the intriguing codename “Midnight.” Among the titles listed are Chess, Pool, Darts, Cup Pong, Checkers, Crazy 8s, Basketball, Four in a Row, and Word Scramble.
While the catalog of games is an exciting reveal, it raises questions about the functionality of this new feature. Will users be able to invite friends to join in on the fun, or will these games be limited to solo play? The potential for interactive gaming could significantly enhance the social aspect of messaging, but clarity on these details is still needed.
