Someone ported Pixel 11’s Rambler voice-to-text to other Android phones

Among the standout features of Google’s Pixel 11 and its companion device, the Googlebook, is the innovative Rambler voice-to-text functionality. This cutting-edge tool has recently been adapted for use on other Android devices, though users should proceed with caution.

Rambler, exclusive to the Pixel 11 series, leverages AI to enhance traditional voice-to-text capabilities. It processes spoken words, refining them into coherent text that incorporates proper grammar and formatting while eliminating unnecessary filler phrases. Although the absence of a live preview and the inability to see a word-for-word transcription may be disconcerting for some, the improvement over conventional voice-to-text systems is significant.

Frustration arises from the fact that this feature is currently limited to Pixel 11 users. However, a resourceful developer has successfully ported Rambler to other Android devices through an application called “PixelBoard.” This app is a modified version of the Gboard, designed to enable Rambler and other advanced writing tools on a broader range of smartphones.

According to a post shared on Reddit by the developer, this project is rooted in the official Gboard app, with modifications made to unlock the Rambler feature. The app can be sideloaded from the project’s GitHub page, although users are advised to proceed at their own risk. In our testing on a Galaxy Z Fold 8, the installation was seamless, and the app functioned just as effectively as Rambler on the Pixel 11. Individual experiences may vary, and users should be mindful of the associated risks. Alternative installation methods are also available, including patching the existing Gboard app on their devices.

As of now, it remains uncertain whether Google intends to extend Rambler support to other devices. For the time being, third-party modifications like PixelBoard are the only means to access this feature. For those who prefer sticking with applications available on the Play Store, Microsoft’s SwiftKey offers a commendable alternative.
