Unofficial Android Port of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake Released
Another Nintendo exclusive has fallen victim to vibecoding, as a developer known as Nycolazs has recently released an unofficial Android port of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake. This port is based on LAS Recomp, a fan project that had previously enabled the game to be ported to Windows, Linux, and macOS.
The mobile version of the game comes with touch controls that adjust to the gameplay. Buttons for actions like sword fighting, shield blocking, and using items appear on the screen as needed, and users have the option to customize their location and size.
During testing, the author found that the port ran smoothly on a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE with Snapdragon 865, maintaining a stable 60 frames per second when using 2x frame generation. However, performance may vary on other devices. Users in the project discussion on Reddit have reported experiencing crashes, graphical glitches, and control problems.
To run this Android port, users will need a device running Android 11 or newer, a legitimate copy of Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch version 1.0.0, and the necessary keys. The code compilation process is carried out directly on the smartphone and took approximately 11 minutes on the developer’s Galaxy S20 FE.
