Upon downloading and installing LunaSpy, users are met with an immediate scan of their mobile devices, ostensibly searching for potential viruses. However, this application is a creation of hackers, designed to seek out something entirely different. Experts from Kaspersky have raised alarms about this scam, highlighting its modus operandi: it conducts a superficial scan and subsequently displays warnings about purported threats. This tactic is intended to instill fear in users, prompting them to grant the application various permissions for deeper scanning or threat detection.
Unfortunately, many users unwittingly comply, allowing LunaSpy to fully integrate itself into their devices. Once installed, the application begins its true function. Cybersecurity experts warn that spyware like LunaSpy not only invades personal data and banking access but can also, depending on the permissions granted, record audio and video, steal passwords from browsers and chat applications, read SMS messages, and even track users’ locations. Alarmingly, a command for photo theft was discovered in the code of the latest version of the application.
If you encounter LunaSpy, it is imperative to avoid downloading it. In general, exercising caution when downloading applications circulating on social networks or available freely on the internet is advisable. For antivirus solutions, it is best to rely on verified applications found in the Google Play Store. However, users should remain aware that even in official stores, compromised applications can occasionally slip through the cracks. A reliable antivirus program should be capable of detecting applications like LunaSpy and alerting users to their presence.
