A New Era for Ace Combat
Last week’s Game Awards unveiled the much-anticipated Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, marking a significant milestone for fans of the franchise. This installment promises to blend photorealistic combat aircraft with the emotional depth that has become synonymous with the series. In a recent interview with Famitsu, series director Kazutoki Kono and producer Manabu Shimomoto shared their vision for this new chapter, emphasizing that it transcends being just another sequel.
Shimomoto expressed optimism about the franchise’s growth, noting that sales of Ace Combat 7 are on the verge of hitting an impressive 7 million units. “With the further success of Ace Combat 8, we hope to bring the series to even more customers around the world,” he stated through machine translation. His aspirations extend beyond immediate sales; he envisions the series reaching its 50th anniversary, positioning AC8 as a pivotal moment in its evolution.
To realize this ambitious goal, Kono revealed that the developers at Project Aces are focusing on three core pillars that define the essence of Ace Combat. These foundational elements are expected to enhance gameplay and storytelling, ensuring that both long-time fans and newcomers to the series will find something to connect with in this latest offering.
